Mostly lower back pain is the result of an injury, like muscle sprains/strains because of sudden movements or poor body mechanics while lifting heavy objects.
Low back pain can also be the result of certain diseases, such as:
1. Cancer of the spinal cord
2. A ruptured or herniated disc
3. Sciatica
4. Arthritis
5. Kidney infections
6.Infections of the spine
Low back pain mostly occurs in individuals between the ages of 30 and 50 because of body changes with aging. As people grow older, the fluid content between the vertebrae in the spine is reduced.
The main objective of Ayurveda treatment for back pain is to bring the vitiated bioelements back to the equilibrium state of health. For treating lower back pain in Ayurveda, internal as well as external treatments are done.
1.Oleation Therapy: Oleation therapy involves pouring warm medicated oil over the patient’s body using the medicated oil-soaked cloth. This therapy helps in improving muscle tone and muscle strengthening by promoting much-needed support.
2.Poultice Therapy: In poultice therapy, herbal powders, herbs, rice & sand are bound in a muslin cloth to create small satchels. These powders, herbs, rice or sand sacks are then heated. After that, these satchels are lightly pounded over the body or specific parts of the body as per requirement. This therapy promotes dry heat for aggravated bio elements conditions. The heat generated in poultice helps to pacify the aggravated bio elements thus relieving the associated pain immediately.
3.Medicated Enema Therapy: Your Air Elements (Vata) are mainly responsible for 55% of your body disease. This therapy works on your colon and helps in restoring your air elements. This therapy consists of an enema using medicated decoction. Medicated enema therapy supports your joints, bones & nervous system results in decreased lower back pain.
4.Heat Therapy – In this therapy, heat is provided to the affected part of the body. This therapeutic use of heat increases the flow of blood to the afflicted part of the body which gives healing. The heat therapy reduces pain, lessens muscle spasm, relaxes muscle tension and can enhance range of motion.
5.Deep Tissue Therapy – In deep tissue therapy, a dough ring made from black gram/wheat flour which is leak-proof is placed on the lower back region. In this dough-ring, warm medicated oil is slowly poured. Deep tissue therapy is a very effective treatment specific for lower back pain.
6.Yoga Therapy: The main aim of Yoga therapy for lower back pain is to provide relief from pain and functional limitation due to chronic lower back disorder. By performing anatomically correct postures one can minimize, heal & ultimately correct his physical malfunctions.
